The Firebirds moved into an early lead which they widened to 10 points by the half and increased steadily throughout the game. West scored 32 points off the bench compared to Fairmont’s 3. Ally Haar came off the bench to score a game high 14. Jasmine Ballew was the top scoring starter with 10. | Stats | 3/7 | Walnut Hills at Kettering-Fairmont | W | 60-31 | 25-2 | Regional Semi Final (State final 16) Walnut Hills scored the first two points of the game followed by a 19 point first quarter avalanche being dropped on them by the Firebirds. When the opening stanza ended West led 21-7 and were well on their way to triggering the 35 point lead mercy rule for the fourth time this year. Jasmine Ballew was the games leading scorer with 15 points. Abby Prohaska was not far behind with 13 points and was credited with a game high 4 steals. | Stats | 3/10 | Mason at Kettering-Fairmont | L | 51-54 | 25-3 | Regional Championship (State final 8) This was another typical Mason/Lakota West battle in that it included 7 ties and 11 lead changes. The Firebirds scored first, but the Comets led by one after the first quarter ended. West came back to lead by one after the third quarter ended, and so it went on into the final quarter. West missed a potential go ahead shot with 1:12 remaining only to see Mason recapture the lead, 46-48, at the 1:05 mark. An Ally Haar trey later got the Firebirds within one, 49-50 with 19 seconds remaining. Quick scoring exchanges left the Comets still further in front 51-54 and with under 10 seconds to go but the firebirds had the ball. Mason quickly fouled Abby Prohaska to take away the prospect of a Firebird trey sending the game into overtime. The game ended with no further scoring. Prohoska played the full 32 minutes, was the games leading scorer with 21 points, grabbed a game high 10 rebounds, dished out a team best 4 steals, and upped her school steals records by 1 in her Firebird farewell appearance. | |
