Wrestlers Wrap Up a Busy Weekend!

The varsity wrestling team competed at the Miamisburg Invitational over the weekend and, despite being down a few starters, were able to secure a top-5 finish. The team placed 3rd in the 16-team field, led by junior Josh Allen and sophomore Cameron Fiasco. Josh won the 157lbs division, going 5-0 on the day. He improved his overall record to 18-1 on the year. Cameron dominated the 165lbs division, going 4-0 with four pins! Other wrestlers who performed strongly were Chase Riggle 2nd, Micah Markley 2nd, Kaiden Mullins 3rd, Wes Allen 3rd, and Zander Knollman 3rd. The varsity team is back on Wednesday as they take on Lebanon. They then travel to Columbus next weekend for the always-tough Rieman Classic at Delaware Hayes HS!
The junior varsity team competed at the Charlie Moore Varsity Invitational at Reading HS this past weekend. Abdulrahman Wakili led the team, which started hot, going 3-0 in the early rounds. This performance earned him a place in the finals; however, he ultimately fell to a returning state placer from Reading. To go along with Abdulrahman’s 2nd place finish, the Firebirds were led by Clarence Rahman 5th, Behruz Asliddinov 6th, Aiden Knecht 5th, and Andrew Dieringer 6th. Next up for the JV is a meeting at Kettering Fairmont on Friday.
Lastly, our freshman team competed in the Buckeye Freshmen Classic held at Centerville High School. First-year student Karas Yowakim led the way, going 3-1 with three pins and a 2nd-place finish. In the finals, he lost a close 4-2 decision to his opponent from Lakewood St. Ed’s. The first-year team heads to Elder HS on Saturday for the Freshmen/Rookie Invitational.
