- Updated: February 2, 2026
Lakota West Girls Wrestling delivered a statement performance, sending 13 athletes to the mat and bringing home eight top-four finishes across their weight classes. The Firebirds’ depth and determination were on full display from start to finish at the NCH tournament.
Fourth-place finishes came from Elisa Salcedo and Nara Crouch, while Jackie Smith battled her way to a third-place result. Lakota West also crowned four runners-up in Brooklyn Hover, Evelynn Fenech, Ailee Dobrozsi, and Julie Shultz, each showcasing grit and consistency throughout the tournament.
Leading the charge was Champion Rachel Wasson, who proudly held the team trophy after an unforgettable run. In just her second year of wrestling, Wasson captured the first tournament title of her career, avenging an earlier loss for the second straight week. She improved her record to 21–14 on the season by knocking off a returning state qualifier from Monroe in the finals—another sign of her rapid growth and confidence on the mat.
This outstanding team effort was guided by coaches Jason Dean, John Miller, and Bella Johnson, whose leadership continues to elevate the Lakota West girls wrestling program.
