This is Ian Avery’s second year as coach of Lakota West’s Academic Quiz Team. He served
as assistant AQT coach at West from 2006-2010, helping to lead the Firebirds to second
place showings at the Cincinnati State Tournament in 2007 and 2008 and the Gold Division
Championship at the 2007 Northmont High School Academic Challenge Tournament. In 1999,
as a senior in high school, Avery was a member of the state championship tournament qualifying
Academic Quiz Team (History Category) at Hagerstown (IN) High School. Avery graduated from
Miami University in 2003, earned a Master of Education degree from Xavier University in 2010
and is currently in the Master of Arts program for English at Xavier. He teaches sophomore
honors English and Advanced Placement English Language and Composition at West.
