Kyle Raulin Memorial Scholarship Application  (DUE BY APRIL 16th)
The Kyle Raulin Memorial Scholarship has been established for Senior Male Athletes. Kyle was a 2001 graduate of Lakota West High School. He served as a captain in both soccer and basketball during his senior year. Kyle died in an April 2003 arson fire at Ohio State University. Due to the generosity of many people, the Kyle Raulin Scholarship awards $1,500 to a Lakota West Senior Male Athlete. On September 9th, prior to the kickoff for the annual Lakota East/Lakota West soccer game, the Kyle Raulin Memorial was dedicated in front of an estimated crowd of 2000 fans. As part of the ceremony the following message from the Raulin Family; Terry, Janet, and sister Kelly was delivered to the crowd by the public address announcer:
“Tonight’s game is the perfect community event to dedicate ‘Kyle’s Wall’. He loved playing in the East-West games. Great teams, great games, great rivalry, and great crowds. Kyle played in four varsity East-West soccer games. Two were his senior year with the second being the regional championship shoot-out game that West won. Kyle scored one of the shoot-out goals that ultimately lead to the team qualifying for the state tournament final four. East vs. West Penalty Kick Highlight movie (16mb)
He also played in two East-West Varsity Basketball games. Kyle was very proud to play for Lakota West — as he was always proud to play for the various West Chester and Lakota Youth teams as he grew up. From those ‘Candy League’ games when he was five years old, to the Ohio State Cup Champion Lakota Lazers, to Lakota West High School, Kyle always played for West Chester or Lakota teams. He could never figure out why anyone would want to play anywhere else! This area had and has excellent coaches, excellent facilities, excellent teams and excellent community support. This community’s support, though, goes way beyond its athletic fields. It was there in all aspects of Kyle’s life — and now it is here tonight to memorialize his passing. It takes a village, or community, to raise a child, and West Chester deserves a huge assist for the part they’ve played. Many of you here tonight had an important part in Kyle Raulin’s life, as well as his family’s’. Thank you all so much! Therefore, at this time, we would like to formally present ‘Kyle’s Wall’ to the Athletic Director of Lakota West, Gerry Weisgerber. We proudly dedicate it to the fine people of West Chester in Kyle’s name”
The Raulin Family then presented the game ball to the officials to start the contest, crossing the field to the strains of Carmen Ohio, the Ohio State Alma Mater, in remembrance of the school Kyle attended at the time of his death.
Kyle’s love of sports, unselfish play, good sportsmanship and willingness to help underclassmen are at the heart of this award.
